How To Condition Your Mind for Acting Success

Apr 04, 2016

Pls read through this before you do it for the first time…

Step One. Think of somebody who has a skill you would like to have as your own. Maybe it’s the lights behind their eyes? Maybe it’s their twinkle of stardom? Maybe it’s unshakeable confidence? You choose…

Step Two. Think of a time when they performed the skill you would like to learn for yourself.

Step Three. Now, run a memory of your role model performing that skill - make it like a “movie”. Do this multiple times; do it once in super slow motion.

(This really helps get it into the muscle)

Step Four. Now, visualise yourself going over to your role model and float into their body and synchronise with their posture. See through their eyes, hear through their ears, and feel how confident they feel.

(Imagine you are literally becoming them. This is easy for us actors, right?)

Step Five Next, run through the memory of them performing that skill from the inside. Inside YOU - Make it yours. Really get into it. Become them. Feeeeeel those senses your role models experience from the inside.

(I play like I’m downloading these new skills directly into my mind - remember The Matrix)

Step Six Do this many times over. Really get a strong sense of what is like to be your role model. Feel their presence, feel their movements, hear their words, feel the distinctions that make up your new skill.

This is a powerful acting exercise -  free pdf for your smartphone so you can use it anytime you choose. So how might you use it?

1. You can use this to feel more confident in your auditions.
2. You can use this to feel more powerful in the audition room.
3. You can use this to be more expressive in the rehearsal room or on stage.
4. You can use this to be more relaxed in front of a camera.
5. You can use this to be more at ease while you’re having head shots taken.
