About Nick

Hi there -

It started in Dublin.

It was raining (in the summer!) and my mobile was ringing....it was my agent.

(Why do actors never look for good news!?)

Anyway she told me I had been cast in the movie Alexander directed by Oliver Stone, starring Colin Farrel, Angelina Jolie and Jared Leto and Sir Anthony Hopkins. "What? Why?.No!!..You're kidding!!"

See, I'd been on a bad run, not getting any jobs for ages and then this comes out of the blue!

A few weeks earlier I'd decided to do some work on myself to try and turn things around, you know redirect the ocean liner we call our careers,  I'd started using some  new ways to create a feeling of natural confidence inside myself and I  went into that audition for Alexander feeling like I was on "top of the world" for once...

I got a recall at a hotel in central Dublin - I'd been asked to prepare a classic monologue for Oliver Stone - I hadn't got one in my back pocket like I used to have at drama school so I re-learned a speech I had when I had played Henry IV at The Abbey Theatre a few years before - fortunately it came back almost instantly - Shakespeare's good like that - (An actor you see)  7 weeks later - (God the agony of the wait!) - got the job - and that's when it happened...

Boom!

I realised there and then I was on to something. I thought if I can make changes inside my own mind, maybe I can create something to help other actors succeed. I went home that night and started to dream up an idea for an online course - I realised I knew a lot about acting and having been in lots of TV shows, movies and plays all over the world I thought - I am going to make a go of this!

So I created this website for you.

A home, a safe, comfortable place for actors to grow and share inside, a place of great fun and great learnings - only one rule - we must create MAGIC!

We went to LA for the press screening of Alexander - and we actually walked on a real red carpet and had those photographers camera bulbs popping wildly and our names being called out - it was  exhilerating - and now it's your turn I want to help you to get there too. I want to help you tread that red carpet and get blinded by flashlights!

The best news for me is that I get to live my dream helping you live yours. I love acting and I Looovvveee coaching and I'm really good at it - toot toot - I know, but I am! :-)

Check out the classes, the courses, the video's, the mp 3's, give them a go and watch as your dreams begin to turn real. Feel good as you go wont you? and enjoy every last second of it! This truly is the best business in the world - when you let it in. And you can, can't you?

x Nick

PS  Here's a few fun facts about me you may like to know.

I'm originally from London, grew up in love with David Bowie (R.I.P) the legend even wore my hair like his, complete with glitter - I know, I know..and platfrom heels!! Makes me smile now...my kids lurch physically when I show them the pics. I also played guitar on Rod Stewarts front lawn and I spilled popcorn all over Ken Loach! Long story...

My first part was as the prince of the fairies in a school play in france...

My first acting job for real was as The Clown in Mr Grump and the clown by Brian Way for Theatre Centre - we toured all over the UK doing 4 shows a day - 5 days a week!! Loved every second of it.

I was in an episode of "The Young Ones" and I worked with Jackie Chan! Cool, right?

Write to me here and tell me your story?

Fly with the eagles!

x Nick

It was December 12, 2009.   I was sitting in an audition session in my tiny little audition room at HBO (why do they always give Casting Directors tiny little spaces?).  Anyway, there I was, auditioning a billion awesome actors for a few great roles on an HBO series.  And, as I said goodbye to another awesome actor and closed the door, I glanced at my assistant, Elsa, and began to write a note about the Absolute Audition NO NO this actor committed.  Even though I gently corrected her, my heart just sank for her.  She was talented, but like so many gifted, creative actors (like you!) she didn’t realize she just killed her own audition.

Ouch!

And that’s when it happened.  BOOM!  Just like that.  The seed of my first YouTube video was born.  In that moment, my mission to help actors all over the world to be better, to nail their auditions and to book more acting jobs sprung to life.

I went home that night and made my first “Tips On Acting” video and vowed I would continue to make videos, write articles, create webinars and shout from the virtual rooftops to share all of my knowledge and experience from nearly 20 years as a Casting Director, from those 14 years at HBO as Vice President of Casting, from the countless casting sessions, auditions, pre-reads, producer sessions, network tests, screen tests, set visits, production meetings, agent and manager meetings, lunches, dinners, Emmys, Golden Globes, screenings and premieres.  I was determined to give it all to you.

So here we are.

I created this website for you.  This is your home, a portal of sorts to help get you to that place you want to be – the RED CARPET. A place you deserve to be.  A place you dream of being.  The RED CARPET –  your walkway to that golden statue, to that acceptance speech you’ve practiced a million times in front of your bathroom mirror.  The RED CARPET that you walk and see the flashing camera lights and hear reporters shouting your name with microphones held out to you –  wanting to be a part of your life because you have touched people with your gift.  You have moved them.  You have inspired them.

My dream is to help you get there.  To give you everything I’ve got to show you how.

Doesn’t that sound like fun?  I get to live my dream helping YOU live yours.

How does it get even better than that?

Watch the videos, take notes, take action.  Bam!  Read the articles and let them inspire you and take action on what you learn in your next audition.  Take my online classes, download the MP3s.  Do what feels good to help you get where you want to go.

Take it.  Run with it.  And get there. …

You DESERVE The Red Carpet!

P.S.  I know the “About Me” page is supposed to have all kinds of bio info about me but I’m a bit of a rebel and I made it “About YOU”…Is that so wrong?   :-p

P.P.S.  But in case you just really want to know more…Here’s some fun facts “About ME”.

  • I’m originally from Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • I fell in love with acting in 7th grade when I got to play Sandy in our middle school production of “Grease” and then went to see it on Broadway (my first Broadway show!)
  • My first casting job was as a Casting Intern on the show “Dave’s World.” The first feature film I worked on was as a Casting Associate on the film “Primary Colors” and I found out as I watched the credits roll at the big premiere that they got my credit wrong.  I cried.  Seems funny now.
  • Both my parents were teachers so the teaching and communication “gene” comes from them. I taught Intro to Theatre to non-theatre majors at Kent State University while I was studying for my masters in Theatre History.
  • I have an awesome family (husband, son and stepdaughter) and we live in Los Angeles where I never thought I’d end up but absolutely LOVE.
  • My favorite color is RED (can you tell?)
  • I like to write epic About pages.
